Naked Raygun "Broken Things" comic + record (Limited edition blue vinyl)
A unique collaboration between iconic Chicago punk band Naked Raygun and indie comic artists James Romberger & Josh Bayer! A single song 7" with etched artwork B-side and original comic book adaptation.
When we heard that Naked Raygun was putting out its first album in 30 years, we went to the band with an idea: wouldn’t it be cool to put out a limited edition Broken Things 7” + comic book set!? Maybe we could get two of our favorite artists–James Romberger & Josh Bayer–to collaborate on the comic and create the artwork to be etched into the B-side of the record!
They all said yes!
James and Josh collaborated on an original comic inspired by the song Broken Things. It's a visually-driven story drawing on the chaos of our times that unfolds in a sort of deconstructivist spiral. The artists each worked on separate sections of the same page, creating a call and response between them that is reminiscent of experimental comics team-ups like the infamous Kurtzman/Elder/Krigstein "Bringing Up Father" romp in Mad, underground jams like the ones in Zap and the raunchy Hama/Adams/Reese split story in Flo Steinberg's legendary Big Apple Comics.
The A-side features Broken Things by Naked Raygun at 45 RPM
The B-side is non-playable, and features etched artwork by James Romberger, with a center label by Josh Bayer
The comic is printed full-color in a 7.25x7.25” square format and runs 14 pages
The limited edition opaque blue vinyl version (this one) is limited to 1000 copies.
